Cargo Terminus
Dry Cargo
TAZARA has modern Dry Cargo Terminus with complete facilities at New Kapiri Mposhi and Kasama in Zambia as well as in Mbeya, Makambako and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania for handling all types of cargo from containerized traffic to break bulk cargo.
Trans-shipment facility
There is also a private owned trans-shipment facility at Kidatu that handles the transfer of cargo from the wider gauge wagons of TAZARA onto the narrower gauge wagons of the Tanzania Railways Limited (TRL) facilitating connection amongst Southern, Central and East African regions in Tanzania. Most such cargo is sugar from Kilombero and imports from South Africa.
Joint Operations
TAZARA collaborates closely with the Tanzania Port Authority, Tanzania Revenue Authority as well as the Zambia Revenue Authority to ensure that the clearing and handling of cargo documentation is streamlined and speeded up. These joint operations also facilitate the fast movement of transit goods.
Customs Formalities
Trains are not delayed at the Zambia/Tanzania boarder because of the pre-clearance arrangements at Dar es Salaam and New Kapiri Mposhi.
